BC Binnings Facilities

The Visual Arts Department offers an extensive photography and digital facility, including a photo studio with lighting systems, two black and white darkrooms, a black and white film processing area, a digital production room with video editing, image and film scanning, a digital lab outfitted with iMacs and a variety of video and image editing software, and a print lab where students can order prints for their assignments on a cost recovery basis (for a guide to printing, please see the two tutorials in the menu on the left).

Students use the facilities for work sessions and critiques during class time, and are strongly encouraged to use them during monitored periods or by reservation on evenings and weekends for individual and group projects. With access to darkrooms, studios, digital facilities, film and digital cameras, students are provided with the opportunity to work in both analog and digital technologies and are encouraged to combine both in their image production. Students are given the space to discover and experiment the many possibilities of the medium, combining theoretical and historical perspectives to their practice.

For additional information please contact the photo/digital technician Rob Bos.
