Research
My research revolves around how photography is a medium to delimit a place as one’s own and allows us to critically analyze concepts such as space and territory and the views that operate the concept of landscape.
My roots go back to Palestine and Lebanon. My family’s journey from the Middle East to various parts of the Americas has deeply influenced my perception of the territory. Born in Peru and then moving to Vancouver in 2023, I experienced the feeling of displacement and the need to understand my surroundings. This transversal perspective shapes my artistic conception of landscapes, with themes that revolve around nature, temporality, human behavior, resource exploitation, and the Anthropocene.
My artistic practice began with lens-based images employing analytical and objective frontal views to understand my context. Over time, I’ve shifted to reusing artistic material from previous projects, allowing me to critically re-examine the photographic medium and my work. My current practice is transforming the photographic object as a colonizing entity, especially of nature. My images fade and ‘re/de/construct’ spaces, inviting viewers to see the world anew.
