Hideaki Matsuyama specializes in the history of television. He focuses on the use of Japanese television archives to clarify the history of Japanese broadcasting and postwar Japan. His first book, “The History of Tokyo through Television Archives”, published in 2019, revealed the transition of Tokyo’s images through the history of television programs. His second book, “The Beginning of Japanese Television”, published in 2024, revealed the history of early television in Japan, including documentary programs, dramas, and variety shows. Both books, written in Japanese, are in-depth discussions of Japanese television culture.
