We are deeply saddened by the passing of Linnea Jericho Watts (née Dick). She was a poet, activist, and matriarch who was ever present alongside her father, Chief Beau Dick Walas Gwy Um, during his artist residency in our department (2013–17). She was instrumental in establishing the Ellen Neel & Beau Dick Award as a legacy and to encourage Indigenous artists in their scholarly endeavours, and was an advisor for the Beau Dick Memorial Award and the Donald Ellis Award for Indigenous Students. We extend our deepest condolences to her loved ones, family, community, and friends.
