ARTH 376—Arts of the Northwest Coast Peoples: The North
2019 Winter Term 2 (Tuesdays/Thursdays, 2:00–3:30), with Dr. Michelle McGeough

This course critically engages with Northwest Coast First Nations artistic expressions and cultural belongings, as well as the politics attendant to them. Its primary focus is the northern Northwest Coast, which includes the territories of the Tlingit, Tsimshian, Nisga’a, Gitxsan, Haisla, and Haida Nations, among others. Students will learn to examine the politics and the power relations behind the shifting ideas of what constitutes Northwest Coast art.
