The Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory is pleased to announce that Althea Thauberger will be joining the department as assistant professor of visual art effective July 1, 2018.
Thauberger has an international exhibition record and is making a contribution to the field of collaborative social documentary in a global context. Thauberger’s projects are ambitious. She has mounted a production of Peter Weiss’s Marat / Sade in an asylum in Prague and, very recently, completed a piece about the Capri Theatre in Karachi. Her work consistently involves a community of articulation and awareness around issues disclosed and discovered by a collective research.
Her screenings and exhibitions include the inaugural Karachi Biennale; the Audain Gallery, Vancouver; the 2012 Liverpool Biennale; the 17th Biennale of Sydney; La musée d’art contemporain de Montréal; the occupied Kino Zvezda, Belgrade; the Berkeley Art Museum; Manifesta 7; BAK, basis voor aktuele kunst, Utrecht; and the Power Plant, Toronto; among many others.
