Thoughts on Translation
Marina Roy will screen a new video work, The Legende of Saint Julian (33 minutes). The screening will be followed by thoughts related to the process of translation central to the production of the video itself: from audio/textual to video, from French to English, as well as in terms of narrative analysis. This video work could be understood as a psychoanalytic reading of Gustave Flaubert’s tale, La legende de Saint Julien l’Hospitalier. In many ways, Flaubert’s narrative reveals a process of translation from parental desire to unconscious formations in the child.
