The Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory is pleased to present GRAD EX, the University of British Columbia’s 2025 BFA/BA Visual Art Graduating Exhibition, featuring works across the breadth of our program’s specializations, from painting and photography to installation and video. The exhibition title plays with the word fragments “grad” and “ex,” inviting multiple interpretations and resonances. In contemporary and historical usage, these words conjure not only graduation and former states of being, but also the act of proclamation—of speaking forth, publishing, and becoming.
This year’s exhibition celebrates 49 emerging artists as they boldly declare their transition from students to practitioners, stepping into the world beyond to discover what’s next.
We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating the diverse practices and accomplishments of our 2025 graduates. We look forward to seeing you at GRAD EX.
