Karen Duffek is Curator, Contemporary Visual Arts & Pacific Northwest at the UBC Museum of Anthropology.

Her teaching focuses on contemporary and historical Aboriginal art of the Northwest Coast, as well as museum practice and curatorship. She is interested in the relationship of contemporary Aboriginal art to cultural practice, and the representation of twentieth-century Northwest Coast art and cultural strategies within modernity.

Duffek is the author (with Bill McLennan) of The Transforming Image: Painted Arts of Northwest Coast First Nations (UBC Press), and editor (with Tania Willard) of Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun: Unceded Territories (Figure 1) and (with Charlotte Townsend-Gault) Bill Reid and Beyond: Expanding on Modern Native Art (Douglas & McIntyre).
