Research

Amanda Kachadoorian Jordi (b. 1995, California) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work examines ambiguous identity through migration, bureaucratic systems, and shifting cultural environments. Raised in San Diego and of Mexican, German, and Armenian descent, she draws on personal and global contexts to explore the emotional and psychological complexities of movement, belonging, and in-betweenness.

Originally trained as a painter, Jordi began by creating large-scale oil paintings of surreal, hybridized botanicals, each form tied to plants, flowers, and landscapes connected to specific people and places. These works developed into a metaphorical language for layered histories and the intertwined identities of their inhabitants. Her practice has since expanded to integrate mixed media, sculpture, and photography, often working with unconventional materials such as poured concrete, bureaucratic documents, and living plants, which she combines through poetic, collage-based processes.
