VISA Undergraduate Admissions and Transfer

Prospective students can apply to enter the first year of the BFA Visual Art program, or to transfer into the second or third year of the BA or BFA in Visual Art program (second-degree students will follow the transfer pathway). You may choose the pathway that best meets your needs.

BFA in Visual Art

To apply for admission to the BFA program:

  1. Apply online to UBC via the youbc Vancouver website and indicate the BFA degree program as your first or second choice. (You must meet the UBC’s admission requirements and submit a portfolio in order to be considered.) For full UBC guidelines, see Admission and Transfer.
  2. Submit your supplementary/portfolio application to the Department of Art History, Visual Art & Theory through the appropriate portal:

    First-Year applicants

    The supplementary application is available online and can be accessed through our website at First-Year (Direct-Entry) BFA.

    Transfer and second-degree applicants

    The portfolio application is available online and can be accessed through our website at Transfer or Second-Degree BFA/BA.

 

BA in Visual Art

First-Year Applicants

First-year applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Faculty of Arts, Bachelor of Arts at UBC Vancouver and apply online via the youbc Vancouver website. For full UBC admission guidelines see Admission and Transfer.

Upon completing 100- and 200-level requirements (and having obtained 3rd-year standing), you may declare a BA in Visual Art. Departmental advising and approval is required prior to declaring a major and enrolling in 300-level VISA courses. Transfer and Second-Degree Applicants

To applying to transfer into the second or third year of the BA Visual Art program:

  1. Apply online to UBC via the youbc Vancouver website and indicate the BA degree program as your first or second choice. (You must meet the admission requirements of the University and submit a portfolio in order to be considered.)
  2. Submit your portfolio application to the Department of Art History, Visual Art & Theory through our website at Transfer and Second-Degree Applicants.

 

General Admission Information

Admission to UBC Vancouver is governed by UBC Enrolment Services, Admissions. This office oversees all undergraduate applications to the University, including tuition and general application requirements.

Admission to the Visual Art program at UBC Vancouver is at the discretion of the Department. Once admitted to the university and to the department, students are required to consult with the visual art undergraduate advisor for guidance with course selection.
