Entropy Now features three new sculptural installation works by Kevin Murphy. Mapping ideas of entropy onto the contemporary moment, the exhibition investigates the relationships between accumulation, stasis, and collapse within a series of contrived microcosms. Employing the vocabulary of Robert Smithson’s Site/Nonsite works in an explicitly artificial way, the whimsical but troubling pieces begin to blur the line between real and imagined times and/or places. Crisis and anxiety play out through the innocent structures of the sandbox, wading pool, and crystal garden, as they become imperfect models for larger concerns.
